Black Finch

Our Story

Established in 2007 by Master Jeweller Raymond de Zwart, Black Finch artfully translates human stories into a beautifully produced piece of fine jewellery. Having grown to a team of over 10 trained artists and jewellers our methods and processes continually evolve to push boundaries of design; resulting in unexpected, personalised heirloom pieces. Each piece within the Black Finch collection fuses influences of the art world with the poetics of fine jewellery making skills.

Legacy of Love Project

We take pride in honouring the earth’s treasures, treading lightly for futures to come. Sustainability and Ethics are present in every little decision we make at Black Finch. This includes increasing supply chain visibility, responsible sourcing of materials, minimising environmental impacts across all levels of our supply chain and supporting biosphere restoration effects.

The Black Finch Legacy of Love Project is the promise we make to future generations. It’s our pledge to make every effort to care for the well-being of the planet and its inhabitants. It’s the vehicle for our sustainability efforts and our way of giving back. We want to plant one million trees, and for every piece of jewellery purchased a tree will be planted.Through our collaboration with a local Peninsula Landcare Group for coastal restoration at Point

Nepean National Park, we actively contribute to reforestation efforts by planting a tree for every purchase made. Over their lifetime, the trees we plant will draw down tons of carbon and provides precious habitat for Australia’s wildlife and ecosystem. These trees are a living legacy to the commitment that our customers make to each other and represent a moment in time that you can visit. We could not have made this commitment without our customers, and we encourage you to visit your trees! Simply drop us an email, and we’ll share their location.

Carbon Neutral Certification

Black Finch achieved carbon neutral certification on 21/07/2023. To achieve this status and become carbon neutral Black Finch undertook the following process:

  1. Commissioned a NoCO2 audit from CRI to measure their carbon footprint for FY2022. CRI’s NoCO2 audit follows the standards outlined by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development’s Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard (1), in addition to the international standard ISO 14064.1 (2).
  2. Have committed to offset their unavoidable emissions through the purchase of units in approved projects under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and Gold Standard, and
  3. Committed to ongoing annual auditing of their emissions.

Carbon Credit Project

India Wind

Investments in clean energy sources, such as wind, are considered to be essential both in the interest of the environment and for public health reasons. Wind projects partially displace electricity currently generated from grid-connected conventional fossil fuel-based thermal power plants, while reducing emissions. Wind Projects reduce the emission of greenhouse gases and limit local air pollution, curtailing its negative health impacts. In addition to its environmental benefits, the implementation of the project creates job opportunities for local workers, contractors, and suppliers, while the operation and maintenance of the wind park generate long-term employment positions.
