Our Story

Established in 2007 by Master Jeweller Raymond de Zwart, Black Finch artfully translates human stories into a beautifully produced piece of fine jewellery. Having grown to a team of over 12 trained artists and jewellers our methods and processes continually evolve to push boundaries of design; resulting in unexpected, personalised heirloom pieces. Each piece within the Black Finch collection fuses influences of the art world with the poetics of fine jewellery making skills.

Carbon Neutral Certification

Black Finch achieved carbon neutral certification on 21/07/2023. To achieve this status and become carbon neutral Black Finch undertook the following process:

  1. Commissioned a NoCO2 audit from CRI to measure their carbon footprint for FY2022. CRI’s NoCO2 audit follows the standards outlined by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development’s Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard (1), in addition to the international standard ISO 14064.1 (2).
  2. Have committed to offset their unavoidable emissions through the purchase of units in approved projects under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and Gold Standard, and
  3. Committed to ongoing annual auditing of their emissions.

Carbon Credit Project

India Wind

Investments in clean energy sources, such as wind, are considered to be essential both in the interest of the environment and for public health reasons. Wind projects partially displace electricity currently generated from grid-connected conventional fossil fuel-based thermal power plants, while reducing emissions. Wind Projects reduce the emission of greenhouse gases and limit local air pollution, curtailing its negative health impacts. In addition to its environmental benefits, the implementation of the project creates job opportunities for local workers, contractors, and suppliers, while the operation and maintenance of the wind park generate long-term employment positions.

Conflict Free Diamonds

All diamonds supplied by Black Finch are certified conflict-free. Majority of their diamonds originate from Australia’s Argyle mine in the Kimberly region or the Ellendale mine in Western Australia. Diamonds being sold in Australia, including those sourced within Australia and internationals, are subject to the “Kimberley Process (KP)”. This is an internationally recognised system that allows global trading and reduces the flow of rough diamonds (conflict diamonds) ‘which are used to finance wars against governments’ – around the world. 100% Refined Gold

Black Finch teams up with a Melbourne based refinery Siltech to supply them with 100% recycled gold. Material is sourced from 100% post-consumer gold in a supply chain where everyone receives a fair wage.
