HuM Architects

HuM Architects was created by two long-standing colleagues, with a passion to tread lightly on the earth by creating sustainable, regenerative architecture and endeavouring to achieve a positive contribution to the fundamentals of place, water, energy, health & happiness, materials, equity and beauty.

With a design studio located in Ascot Vale, our residential and commercial projects extend throughout Melbourne into Regional Victoria and interstate to Queensland.

We build strong lasting relationships with our clients, consultants and builders through our collaborative and engaging process.

As registered architects with over 20 years of experience, we will guide you on an enjoyable journey while drinking quite a few cuppas and lots of coffee along the way. In listening to your brief requirements, we develop, document and successfully deliver the project on time and on budget. Whether small, large, simple or complex we will ensure your project is a creative but versatile design solution, unique and meaningful.

Our energetic and committed approach with reliable communication and clarity of expectations, underpins our professional approach.

What does NoCO2 Certification mean?

By meeting the requirements of the NoCO2 Program, HuM Architects are certified as a Carbon Neutral business by CRI; can be promoted and marketed as such, and can display the NoCO2 Logo issued by CRI.  To achieve this status and become carbon neutral HuM Architects undertook the following process:

  1. Commissioned a NoCO2 audit from CRI to measure their carbon footprint for FY2021. CRI’s NoCO2 audit follows the standards outlined by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development’s Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard (1), in addition to the international standard ISO 14064.1 (2).
  2. Have committed to offset their unavoidable emissions through the purchase of units in approved projects under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and Gold Standard, and
  3. Committed to ongoing annual auditing of their emissions.

What Carbon Credit Projects does HuM Architects purchase offsets from?

Kenya Water Filters Project

Approximately 80% of the diseases in developing countries can be traced back to the consumption of contaminated water; each year more than 2 million children die due to this cause. Africa and Southeast Asia are especially affected.

In order to get clean drinking water, women often have to walk long distances. Even then, water is often only available in open sources – such as rivers or waterholes – and is contaminated with dirt and pathogens.  LifeStraws® purify water without the need for heat, electricity or additional tools.  LifeStraws® eliminate the need to combust non-renewable biomass such as firewood as required by conventional water purification.  The LifeStraws® project in Kenya alone leads to a more than 2,000,000 tCO2e reduction in CO2 emissions per year.  LifeStraws® projects help prevent deforestation.
